Grandparents Group   [14-May-2009]

A support group for Grandparents raising their grand-children met for the first time in March 2008. It was established because of a recognised need for information and support for Grandparents and other relatives for example Aunts and Uncles who have become full-time carers of children. The group meet once a month on a Tuesday morning between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm at Cardiff City Hall (free of charge). An estimated 200,000 grandparents in the U.K. are raising their grandchildren because of the children's parents' mental health problems, substance misuse, disability, bereavement, imprisonment or other reasons. Grandparents may face problems when they take over the care of their grandchildren for example feeling stressed, personal health issues, experiencing family and relationship difficulties and struggle financially. If you would like more information please contact the Network Co-ordinator Rachel Kelly on 02920 360556.
