A support group for Grandparents raising their grand-children met for the first time in March 2008. It was established because of a recognised need for information and support for Grandparents and other relatives for example Aunts and Uncles who have become full-time carers of children. The group meet once a month on a Tuesday morning between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm at Cardiff City Hall (free of charge). An estimated 200,000 grandparents in the U.K. are raising their grandchildren because of the children's parents' mental health problems, substance misuse, disability, bereavement, imprisonment or other reasons. Grandparents may face problems when they take over the care of their grandchildren for example feeling stressed, personal health issues, experiencing family and relationship difficulties and struggle financially. The Cardiff Parent Network are proud to launch their new website. The website will enhance communication between parents and the team. The website has been designed and constructed with the help and ideas of network parents. Parents will be helping to monitor the site and regularly updating it. Utilising an updatable news and information facility, the network team can post latest news, events and information to the site instantly. The site has been designed and developed by Onefunction, an established Internet company based in Swansea.
